Adam Plachetka, Welcome

Adam Plachetka Awarded the Medal of Merit

Opera singer Adam Plachetka, one of the most prominent figures on the contemporary Czech and international opera scene, has been awarded the Medal of Merit for his contributions to the arts. The state decoration was bestowed upon him by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, during a ceremony held on 28 October in the Vladislav Hall of Prague Castle, marking the national holiday commemorating the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia. Due to a previously scheduled concert in Holešov, Adam Plachetka was unable to attend the ceremony in person. The award was accepted on his behalf by his wife, soprano Kateřina Kněžíková.

“It is an immense honour to receive such a prestigious state decoration, and I am deeply grateful for this recognition. I see it not only as an acknowledgement of my work to date, but also as a commitment for the future. I regret that I could not attend today's ceremony in person, but I have a long-standing concert engagement in Holešov, which is sold out. I did not feel it would be right to cancel or reschedule the concert and celebrate recognition of my work by choosing not to do that very work,” said Adam Plachetka.
